Itinerary
Day 1. Friday 23rd March 2012
Arrive at the camp site south of Blackbutt at Jessie’s
Well to meet the gang and enjoy happy hour nibbles and a traditional aussie fish & chips for dinner.
DAY 2. Saturday 24th March 2012
Today’s ride will be full of adventure as we make our way along the BNT to Nanango Showground’s to camp the night. We will be riding on a old coach trail and passing though the gold diggings, of years gone by. During the day we will be traveling along creeks and riding down a trail where 4wd have trouble going. On our arrival at Nanango Showground’s set up camp and enjoy dinner tonight from the local Pizza’s shop and they are real yummy!!
DAY 3. Sunday 25th March 2012
We are leaving civilization today heading for our camp site on the Brisbane river (this is a wonderful camp site) not the huge Brisbane river that you are thinking of but where the river starts from. When we reach to top of the range it will take a hour to ride down to the river and the scenery along the way is breath taking. Horses have settled in now after the first day’s ride under their belt and this allows the riders a very relaxing day’s ride along the BNT with lots of sights to see.
DAY 4. Monday 26th March 2012
After spending the night camped beside the Brisbane river we are riding to Manumbar Sports Ground today. We will be riding through old homestead properties in the middle of no where and having lunch on one of the properties beside a creek. Most of these big properties run cattle, and with no fences we might indeed run into cows with guns, cows well hung. We will be looking forward to arriving at Manumbar because the next day Tuesday is a rest day with power (hair dryer’s girls)
DAY 5. Tuesday 27th March 2012
REST DAY. Into the nearest town for fresh Vidal’s and some sight seeing, or maybe just hang around camp and get a well deserved break. That night we are having a camp oven dinner and sitting around the camp fire telling stories and jokes of what has been happening so far during the camp.
DAY 6. Wednesday 28th March 2012
We will be glad that the horses are all rested up
for today’s ride as it is a beauty. Long hard hills arriving on top of God’s country “Black Snake”, it will be a
big day for both horses and riders but well worth the
effort. You could forget that the rest of the world exists with the creepy, scary trees that we ride though and the biggest black boys ever, over our heads on the horses. Tonight we are camping at Black Snake right on the top of the range.
DAY 7. Thursday 29th March 2012
Now you know what they say what goes up must come down, but this is one hell of a down. Today’s ride takes in a part of the Kilkivan Hanging Rock ride (no more need to be said) and when we reach the bottom we ride though the Kilkivan valley until we reach our destination KILKIVAN township. We will ride right down the main street of Kilkivan until we reach the Showground’s just so the towns folk know that the Gidd-ee Up gang are in town.
DAY 8. Friday 30th March 2012
REST DAY……….WHO HAS THE MASSAGE OIL.!!!!
Get out the shampoo for the horses so they look like they just stepped off a float, not just ridden the BNT for 200 klms, and us too, out comes the make up cases. Big camp oven dinner tonight to celebrate arriving at Kilkivan and really looking forward to tomorrow’s ride.
DAY 9. Saturday 31st March 2012
THE GREAT KILKIVAN HORSE RIDE.
Up early so we are ready in time to ride out from the Showground’s with everyone else. All different colors, breeds, sizes, ages of horses and riders to match. This is the day we have been waiting for to ride THE GREAT KILKIVAN HORSE RIDE and now we are really doing it. The smells of all those horses and all those cowboys with their bow legs, it doesn’t get any better than this, we am now in HORSE HEAVEN.!!!!
At 4 pm we meet up with the other rides and now 1200 riders come down the main street of Kilkivan with folks of both sides of the street clapping and taking photo’s, the micro phone calling out the names all the clubs that are taking part.
After the ride has finished we are going to the local Kilkivan Hotel for dinner**, what a great way to finish off this camp.
DAY 10. Sunday 1st April 2012
Home today after a cooked breakfast but not before we view some of the camp drafting and pony club events held at the Showground’s

“The GREAT KILKIVAN RIDE – coming down the main street”
